I was a camper a Sno Hill before and after it became the current Camp Lohikan. I know Willie Esh, Ira Gatt and I would love a reunion for campers and counselors of the the late 60`s and early 70`s. We are well and happy in New York and would love to hear from fellow campers. Regards to the Buynak Family.

I still have an old pennant that says `Snow Hill Camp, Lake Como , Pa. It was operated by `Skipper`.
My best friends were Billy Josephs, Harold Sampson and Peter Katy.
Could this have been the camp of my childhood?
I think I was a `Wolverine`, and earned the swimming trophy one year for progressing all the way from `Tadpole` through `Minnow`, `Fish`, Shark` and `Whale`.

I have some old pictures someplace which I`ll try to scan and send in.

I was a camper in the Eagles bunk in `51 &`52, with Ron Boswell as counselor. In `53, I was a C.I.T. in the tent with Bob Freeman, the horsemanship counselor. During that time, I was best buddies with Roger Rosenblatt, the essayist, commentator, and writing teacher. Some years ago, I took an essay writing class with him at Southampton College, here on Long Island. I would love to hear from any other campers from those days.

Susan Bernstein (Goldmann)6/29/2007
Camper, period: 1950-1960 (1954 -1963)

Was in camp from 9 yrs. old to 18 yrs. old.
I loved camp. Names that I remember are: Delores Yormark(came to my wedding),Roberta Levine, Barbara Goodman,Marsha Jaeger,Janet Moskowitz,Richard Heitler,Lucille Nicefero?, Lucille`s mom phyllis & a little sister, The Smith`s of course. So many others that I can`t recall all their names.

Ellen Katz (Regent)1/2/2008

I, too was a camper when Skip owned Snow Hill, and for the first year the Buynaks took over.
I was always in a bunk with my two best camp friends, Stephie Gluck, and Alice ('Froggy') Kagan. I`d love to hear from them. Froggy`s 2 brothers, Jimmy, and Andy, were campers, too. My brother Robbie ('Ice Cream') was the youngest camper for most of my years there--and he ran for Skipper every year on Camper-Counselor Day.
Does anyone hear from Mario Tarantino, Ronnie Shapiro, Teddy Nussbaum, Albert Sarasohn, Amy Fradkin, Beth Friehoffer, or Jimmy`s brother, Johnny Schwartz? So many years later, I still have so many amazing memories.
So, 'everybody up, up, up!' and keep in touch!

I, too, remember Willie Esch and Ira Garr. Esch had a great outside shot and Garr was a powerful ballhandler and quite the pianist. Eight Days a Week was his specialty. Shelly Bronfman was my first love. Alan Tepper was my counselor for two years and he was a terrific guy. Jimmy Schwartz was hysterical. My cousins Sandy Teller and Neil Sedwin were ther with me. I miss Peter Zwerner. We shared the same birthday and he was a great friend. He was Monkeyman and he had the guts to try anything once. God, he made me laugh. Cosmos Poulos, Jimmy Greif, Steve Alpert, the Root Boys, Kenny Greenblat, Peter Neufeld, Sherri Perle, Sue Jordan, Robin Sagan, Joy Gardiner, Ellen Zlotkin, Roger and Bart. I miss you all. I connected with Joy Gardiner, years ago. Her stepbrother is an old friend of mine in Boca. I taught his kids and saw Joy at their Bar Mitzvahs shortly before she passed away. She died too young.
Peter Neufeld was funny, but pretty much drove us all nuts. He was so irritating back then. Who knew he would grow up to initiate such amazingly important work as the Innocence Project? Kenny Greenblatt has produced some of the greatest broadway shows in the last two decades. Sue Jordan and I reconnected at school in Buffalo. We had a lot of mutual friends. I had a crush on her there, but, soon after I met my wife of 32 years there. Sue dumped the jerk she was dating and ended up marrying Jesse from her old neighborhood. He was a a friend of my wife\\\`s and a great guy.
I miss you all. Thank you for making me laugh. Thank you for all the baseball, basketball, Stratego, Strat-o-matic Baseball, and poker games during rest period. Thank you for my first kiss. Thank you for so many wonderful memories. It truly was always another beautiful day at Snow Hill Camp.

hi everybody! gee i recognize quite a few names, even tho most of you posting were campers with my brother Mario (and maybe my brother Joe, too!). my mom worked in the office with Skipper and Ruth. the Tarantinos are all doing fine - mom will be 83 next month. Joe`s wife took mom for a ride to camp last summer. i don`t know if they 'went in' or not, but i often wonder what camp looks like now, if the totem poles are still there. i was a Chickadee, a Bob-0-Link, and i forgot what else. Mario and I both live in Stamford, CT, about 5 minutes from each other. Joe lives in the catskills, not far from camp. would love to see some posts from my own gang, debbie brent, judy guttenberg, jane barnett, SUSIE WEINSTEIN, WHERE ARE YOU???? ivy tomback (sp?). oh, also looking for Stephen Pomerantz (again, sp). he took me to the peewee dance when we were 8-9 years old. that same year i was a flying monkee in the wizard of oz and did an alley cat solo in the talent show hahaha. thought i found Stephen working for the history channel but it was a different Stephen P LOL. i remember chasing and catching Bill Whelan on Sadie Hawkins` day, too, and milk and cookies every friday night after the camp fire. i was even picked to be one of the wise winds one week (wow!). remember going bowling in hancock? and to candyland? the building is still there tho it`s a wreck. camp hilltop is still going, too! everyone remember Jean Curley who also worked in the office? she painted a scene for my mom and it`s now hanging in my house. i have such fond memories of Sno-Hill. would love a reunion!

Hi Lucia:

I happened to go on this site becuase my husband and I are taking a trip to Pennsylvania and I wanted to visit Sno-Hill. I logged on here and saw your message. My brother is Stephen Pomeranz. he is a radiologist with a very large practice all over the country. He is based in Cinncinati and Chicago. His business name is Proscan Imaging. He is married to his wife Penny Pomeranz and they have six children - Christy, Corbin, Talor, Jory, Kellen & Cody- Most of them attend Northwestern University. His eldest daughter is in medical school there. You can look him up on the internet and you will see him.

I am married for 32 years to my husband Steve Weintraub that I met at the camp we went to after Sno-hill. I am a partner in an interior architectural firm in New York. I have two children Lindsay and David - my daughter graduated from college this year and my son is rock drummer with the band Trikuti.

I met your brother Mario at a real estate dinner several years ago. I remember Joe and you, as well. I will tell my brother you asked for him on this site.

We both had beautiful summers at Sno-Hill - I remember the horses - French Flare - my favorite. I remember the lake and swimming in such a great environment and of course - Sadie Hawkins day. All in all it was a fantastic experience.

Best regards,
Nancy Pomeranz Weintraub

Hi all, I was a camper/cit in 1965-66. Have only great memories but everything is foggy... Reading some of the posts I remember Alan Tepper,Shelly Bronfman, Sue Jordan..
Remember not going to activities and spending lots of time in the stables riding.. night time raids and almost getting thrown out of camp for sneaking out to visit my summer love.. Barry Shapiro.
Details and specifics
are vague and would love to hear from anyone who was there during those years!

Hello All-

I attended Sno Hill with my brother Ron and sister Marcia. I don`t remember too many names - Steve Brill, Don Hartman, Beau Wilson. I remember Al Tepper - didn`t he play the banjo? And Pancho with his archery exhibitions. Who was the guy who 'fought' the alligator in the lake? We also camped out in the 'cabin' on the other side of the lake.

Camper, period: 1950-1960 (1950-1960)

My brother, Robert, and I attended Sno-Hill during the 1950s-1960s. We had a blast there. I was also a waitress, junior counselor and counselor. I have spoken to Sue Smith (Kligfield). I do remember Smitty, Bart and the horse shows with Bob Friedman. My brother lives in Orlando now and I live in New York. We have our camp pictures and ribbons from the horse shows. We would like to hear from others from our era.

Enjoyed reading your messages. Skipper died a number of years ago, SMitty is living in Tenn. near Bart and Wendy. Jeanne Curley died a few years ago, I am in touch with Maureen every so often, she`s living in York Pa. Ed Mazzer died of cancer in 1975, I remarried a few years later, last name Sorensen now. Becky Mazzer in Truckee CA (north end of Lke Tahoe), Carol Mazzer Rose (4 kids) who learned her swimming at Snow Hill swam for Penn State. She worked one summer at a dude ranch in Colorado helping lead horse excursions, learned her riding from Bob Freeman at Snow Hill. Tarantinos were good friends, good to know they`re still around. We had wonderful times. Keep in touch via this web site.

I was thinking about Sno Hill and thought I`d do a web search and lo and behold, I found this site! I have such fond memories of the place and the wonderful time I had 'growing up' there. Names that come to mind in addition to Skip, Smitty, Roger and Bart are Gig, Pancho, Kenny Greenblatt, Shorty Shapiro, Larry Miller, Alan Tepper, Paul Sprung (the snake man), Joan Gropper (my great love!), Jimmy Reichman, Leslie Poll, The Grief family...And one really great memory of Skip reading the baseball standings every Sunday over the loudspeaker during the picnic lunch.

I`d help organize a reunion if anyone is interested. I live in Manhattan, have been married for 35 years and have two wonderful grown up kids. Let me know...

Boy, I`m going back many years. I remember Skipper. I believe he was a Phys Ed teacher during the regular school year. He had a son who was about my age but I don`t remember his name. He competed with me in rifle shooting and the last year I was there, I won the Junior Rifle Championship of Wayne County. I also remember a horse/rider trainer called BJ. I remember this because i had a secret crush on her. I also competed in jumping. Had a large (16 hand) horse called Red. Spent alot of time at the stables and had to sit by myself when mess was called for lunch, ha ha. I also had a friend called Ronnie Hill. I remember when Sno(w)-Hill Camp moved from one location to another but it was still on Lake Como, I believe? There use to ba a maintenance man who was heavy set and chewed tobacco by biting the end off a cigar. Can`t remember his name, though.

Camper, period: 1960-1970 (1960-1966)

Hello Sno-Hill alumni! What a find! I am one of the 'Root boys', the youngest, Kevin.(I am 54 now) I attended Sno-Hill from the age of 5(surely the youngest sleepaway camper ever)to about age 11. I was a Flaming Arrow along with David Miller, Eric Hellige, Steve Pomeranz, and others I cannot remember. I should have gotten the trophy for the most frequent bed-wetter but there was no such prize. I had to settle for 'camper of the week' which did not have the same distinction as bed-wetter of the summer. oh well... There is a story behind this in that my parents had been killed in a plane crash just a few months before I went to Sno-Hill for the first time. I actually secretly hated camp but have the most vivid memories of my summers there.ALL I ever cared about was that song we sung at the end of the summer'I want to go home. 3 more days of starvation, then back to civilization. I wanna go home!' Can anyone remember the rest of the lyrics? Those Slim jims at Malinskis. ANd that bug juice! THe canteen...the crocodile in the lake scared the crap out of me! I was a pollywog for all six years of camp, surely a camp record. How about all those Indian feathers? ANd I loved Pancho in the headress! ANd the HIll and that BUS! Where is the bus? ANd the tramploline! And of course Sadie Hawkins Day. I was 5 years old and my girl was 16!(Jane Sacks!) Is there a name for that?Yes: Insane.Anyway, if anyone remembers me or my two brothers, Douglas and Michael, I would love to hear from you.Currently, I live in Greenwich, CT where I am a psychotherapist and have identical twin 17 year old boys who attended Lohikan many years ago for one summer. hope to hear from someone...Ellen Regent? where are you?

Jason Wittman (you all know me as Jack)6/8/2010

Hi all! I haven`t been in contact with anyone other than Nicky Dorsky (he is a film maker living in San Francisco) and my brother Charlie Wittman who lives and works on Long Island, NY. I am living in West Hollywood, CA for the past 26 years and am a Life Coach and a professional photographer. You can find out more about my life at http://JasonWittman.com It would be fun to get to that reunion in Sept. I don`t know if it is possible, yet.

Rod Folia3/16/2010
Camper, period: 1950-1960 (1953-1959)

First year at the 'new Snow Hill' at Lake Como on Kennyville pond. We never got wet from the flood in `55. Saw Diane Erickson at St. Mary`s in `60, Ran into Bob Freeman in the mid 60`s on LI, paying a traffic ticket. Stopped at the camp in 1976 and found Poncho in charge. Snow Hill, at that time was used as a retreat facility. Hey, Sue Goldman, remember when we beat Myron Greenberg in the lindy dance contest? Remembering - Jane Morris, Elaine Danaman, Amy Colman, Andy Freeman, Mark Soloman, Billy Jacobs, Lucile Nesifaro (bad speeling), Bobbie Jennings (I always had a crush on you), Roger Smith, of course. Is anyone updating this site?

Rod Folia3/10/2010
Camper, period: 1950-1960 (1953-1959)

Glad that I found this site - I saw Diane Erickson at St Mary`s prep school in 1960 (I went to St Paul`s). Went back on a sales trip in 1976 and found Poncho in charge, the camp was used as a retreat facility. Hey, Sue Goldman, do you remember when we won a dance contest? Also saw Bob Freeman, he & I were paying a traffic ticket on Long Island.
Hey, Scotty, do you remember - 'they stood beneath the mistletoe, they knew not what to do, for Ed was only five foot tall and Scotty six foot two'. Had a long talk with Elaine Danaman back in the 60`s. These were the best summers of all times. Jane Morris, are you still around?

Stu Coleton9/28/2009

Just for the record it was known as Camp Snow Hill. I start there when the original camp actually was on Lake Como. Then we moved to Lohikan. After my twelve or so years I start Dental School and lost touch with everyone.Skip and Smitty ran the camp. My last two years was water front director.( Girls remember to wear your little bells) I would love to get in touch with B.J.Hawa, Diane Erickson, Either of the Smith Boys. Poncho, Jeanne Curley or anyone from that era. Let`s hear from you.

To Ellen Katz (Regent) My sister found this site and told me of your message. The last time I heard from Froggy was my freshmand year at Newcomb College (Tulane U) in 1971. She had transferred there and was a sophomore but only stayed for 1 semester. She was pre-med, I think. Sherry Perle married a close friend of mine and my husband but they divorced. I am married to a doc and run his office and still live in NJ. One daughter who is a jr at Trinity College in Conn. My brother was friends with yours at camp and still occasionally refers to him, \'bobby icecream\'. I would love to hear from you. Of course I have wonderful memories of camp. Beth Freihoffer and I went to camp Algonquin in NY state the summer of 1969 but then I lost touch.

Attention Snow Hill Campers! For all of you who remember: mudsliding on cafeteria trays, NOT going to activities, Rocky the Racoon, running away from camp, the Sno Hill 11, we need your help and your memory before it all goes away.

Contact me or A. Black, Esq. (yes, we`re two guys who are lawyers OK?!). Hopefully a reunion will be in the cards sometime within 12 months (2009-2010).

Hope everyone is healthy and well and full of life and laughter.
